Our Vision
tie support the Scottish Government's position with regard to Scotland's energy future and harnessing our abundant wind and wave power. We are proud to be delivering one of the only forms of transport infrastructure that not only starts off clean, but will become cleaner and ‘greener’ over its design lifetime as the government keeps its promises on energy reform. In terms of lifetime energy use per passenger kilometre, trams outperform both private cars and city buses. There are recognised issues in the way power is generated at power stations, leading the Scottish Government to target 31% of Scotland's energy generation from renewables by 2011, ready for Edinburgh’s trams to start running on street. With renewable energy targeted to meet 50% of Scotland’s power needs by 2020, Edinburgh's trams are well prepared for the future, getting cleaner and more efficient over time.
World class public transport is a cornerstone of good environmental and energy policy; it means cleaner air, lower emissions and reduced congestion. It benefits the local economy and makes affordable travel accessible to the widest possible range of people. Our vision is of an Edinburgh at the forefront of public transport innovation, benefitting all its citizens and visitors.
